I played around with this idea a lot in my head. I knew I wanted to use the Pink & Main April Card Kit, Bee Kind (sold out), but I wasn’t sure how. The bee stamps and chipboard stickers are more anatomically accurate than I like my card bees to be, so I wasn’t really feeling the stamp set images, but the sentiments were really sweet. The kit included a set of hexagon dies, which are still available here.
I started by using the honeycomb stencil (a kit exclusive but very similar to this one included in a Scrapbook.com bundle) and Distress Oxide ink in Fossilized Amber. I used my Vivace Beauty Blending Brushes to blend the ink onto my 3.75″ x 5″ white panel cut using the Lawn Fawn Large Stitched Rectangle die set. I wanted it heavier on the left than the right. It blended perfectly. I die cut several smaller hexagons using the Bee Kind paper pad from the kit. I wanted to use some of the geometric patterns, but didn’t want to overwhelm the card with honeycomb patterns, so I picked some muted honeycomb colors, a bright plaid, a polka dot, and a bright quatre foil pattern. I then stamped the sentiment Bee You on a scrap of the same white card stock and cut it out with a larger hexagon. I blended some more Fossilized Amber on the sentiment so it wouldn’t look so stark next to the patterned paper and stenciled area. Then I started assembling.
I wanted the patterned pieces to compliment the sentiment, not to overtake it, so I arranged them around trying to make sure everything was distanced equally apart. I popped up all of the hexagon pieces on foam tape and added a little sparkle with some clear Wink of Stella on a few of the honeycomb hexagons. I completed the card with some of the coordinating enamel hearts (similar to these but in colors that match the Bee Kind kit).
Finally, I didn’t want the panel to fade into the background (white on white is not my favorite look), so I grabbed some Recollections paper in yellow, similar to the paper in this paper pad and cut down a matte to 4″ x 5.25″. As soon as I matted it on the yellow, it pulled the whole card together and made it pop.
I love how this card came out. I’m actually preparing to send it out to a little girl in Norway who is collecting cards and I’m excited this is the card she’ll receive from me.
Thank you for joining me! See you soon!
