July Stash Bash: These Cards Are Weird

Kind of…odd

It’s been a little difficult to get inspired by the Cheeky Modern Pop paper and accessories. I figure it’s because by the time you get to having just a few pieces of paper left, it’s down to the patterns you’re least interested in. I think that’s been the barrier for me.

I have many scraps, which I started out with on the card in the lower right. I used the rub on rainbow and cloud and two triangle shaped scraps I had. I put a sticker over one end and figured it could be a celebration card of some sort. The next card I made also featured scraps. It’s the one with the taco and doughnut in the upper right. The scraps are pink with sprinkles on one side and the other side has pizza slices. Again, another random celebration card that can be used for birthdays or congratulations or whatever.

I cannot tell you why I like the weird I love u card. The paper is creepy; eyeballs on one side, closed eyes on the other. The rub-on is a giant weird looking eyeball. The hand says Love u, but what does the rocket have to do with anything? But I love it so much! It just so happens that I had the two full sheets of the eye paper left because I had no idea what to do with it. I cut a strip off the B-side and added the three rub-ons and for whatever reason it works. I’ve left it a little plain right now, but i think I’ll end up adding some sequins or other garnish to it when I decide to send it out.

Of COURSE I love you!

The dinosaur one is my least favorite. I thought I was being all clever by using the round stickers to make a patterned background. I had a partial sheet of paper with green leaves on one side and a green grid pattern on the other. I trimmed it down, put the cute roller skating dinosaur on it, used a strip of the leafy paper to ground the dinosaur, and off it went. I realize the only part I really don’t like is the sticker “patterned paper” I made. The rest is cute in an oddball sort of way.

The sentiments on a few of these cards were from a pocket page card that I trimmed down to just the cute little sentiments. So far I’ve used two of them on cards and they work. The disco ball card on the blue paper uses a sticker from the Tim Holtz Ideology Small Talk. It says “Leave a little sparkle wherever you go” and worked really well with the disco ball. That one is a little plain, too, but I think it will be easy to make it sparkle with an overload of embellishments.

Overall, I’m struggling a bit with the Cheeky Modern Pop paper and would really like to move on to the Summer Fiesta paper, but I’m determined to get through the remainder of the pad. I will definitely not use all the stickers or rub-ons no matter how many I manage to cram onto a card, but I am making strides.

Onward!
