Mother’s Day Card #2 Turn-About for Days (Late edition)

073218C4-4C7E-4850-9919-1E7D7F014873I am fascinated by Concord & 9th’s Turnabout stamps. The first one I bought was the collaboration with Hero Arts for their anniversary. My first attempt at making a card with that set was a little sloppy and I became intimidated. So, when Cassie Trask used the Dahlia Turnabout to make a card, I was excited to try again. The Dahlia Turnabout is one of the smaller turn-about stamps and I felt like I could get the hang of it. This is the second card I made with it and I feel like I have it figured out.

What I Did

Using the Dahlia Turnabout stamp and the Cool Summer Night ink mini cubes, I stamped out the focal point dahlia. The Turnabout stamp is incredibly easy to use, especially with the acetate piece that helps you line it up.

I wanted there to be a background, but nothing that would be too busy or take away from the gorgeous dahlia. I chose a tone on tone pattern from the Pink Fresh Student Let Your Heart Decide. Unfortunately I don’t think this paper pad is available anymore. I wanted to add a little bit of interest to the focal point, so using my Corner Chomper, I angled the corners.

I popped the piece up on adhesive fun foam and then stamped out Happy in Ocean Waves and cut it out with the coordinating die. I stamped Mother’s Day! in Dusk and trimmed it out with my Tim Holtz scissors. I then glued them down.

The word “happy” does get a little lost and if I made this card again, I would go with stamping it in Dusk and the rest of the sentiment in Desert Night.

When I first started with the arrangement I thought I would put “happy” above the dahlia onto the patterned paper. Then I thought I’d have it hang off the dahlia piece and pop it up with foam adhesive. Finally I decided on putting the sentiment across the dahlia, but that left a LOT of empty space at the top of the card. I have a box of ribbon where I keep ribbon I buy and that came as parts of kits. I can say for certain this piece of ribbon came from a Hero Arts kit, I just couldn’t tell you which one, but I linked a similarly colored ribbon in the same width.

I used 1/8″ scor tape to attach it to the card front, then tied a bow and attached it with a glue dot. Using the Nuvo adhesive, I attached the whole thing to a top folding A2 card base.

When I started this card, I didn’t really know where it was going. I liked the color combos, but had no idea how to finish it. When it finally came together, I was really pleased with the results. Just goes to show, the only way out is through!
